Hey- When we go swiming in water we can do the backfloat and such, but sometimes we sink to the bottom. Why do we sometimes float and sometimes not? Do we float? How could you control that?

I think it has to do with how spread out you are making yourself- Backfloat vs. Cannonball- and it might have to do with the water in us. Aren't we, like, 75% water of something? Wouldn't water float? It could also do with if we are holding our breath or not.

humans are the same density of water and i think it just depends on wat we are doing that makes us float or sink.

we float sometimes because the oxygen in our lungs has a lesser density than water, but when we let all of our breath out (oxygen) then there is nothing in our lungs to keep us floating

I agree with Ally. If you let out all the air from your lungs, you will sink, but since most of us take a breath before doing anything int he water, we tend to come up and float.

Well i believe it is because when we are in a more spread out area we ghave more volume hence less density and so we would float. However when we go into a ball and go into water we will just sink to the bottom because we have more density.

i think that it is becuase when we have more air in our lungs and are more spread out we float

We float becuase we have Air [oxygen] in side us. We sink when we exhale. We control if we float or sink by breathing. Am I right?

Well, have you ever tried laying on the bottom of a swimming pool? If you have you usually float back up to the top. Unless are holding onto something. But if you are floating on you're back sometimes you sink down a little bit, or you turn onto your side.

If you stretch out and do the backfloat your body mass is spread out and there is more surface area so you float. But the tighter your body is you sink, like if you do a cannonball there's more weight and mass in one place.

Don't us humans float in salt water? You know if you went to Salt Lake

I don't know if it is completely surface area because if you are standing in a pool, and you curl into a ball, your face might go into the water, but you still float.

But if you are floating on you're back sometimes you sink down a little bit, or you turn onto your side. I am able to lay down on the bottom of a swimming pool without holding onto something. I had to first swim down, and then I let out some breath and I was able to lay down with out floating up, or moving in any way.
