Come on now, Mr. Wilcox... You stressed to us that the 1st one isn't the answer. The phases are NOT caused by the shadow of the earth which blocks part of the moon from being seen. The moon would have to be behind it. That doesn't work out. Mainly because the moon and the earth display a different shadow. It doesn't easily divide out. The saying that makes the most sense to me is... "The phases of the moon are caused by the different angles of the sun and earth..." The way that is said, just makes the most sense to me.

i think it is when the sun and moon both rotate around the earth then that causes the moon phases

the second idea makes alot of sense, because even "IF"the shadow of the earth had something to do with the phases of the moon, the moon doesnt just stay in one place.its always moving!

I think that the moon's orbit has alot of reason on how the moon phases work. First, i think that the moon reflects sunlight, and second the moon's orbit revolves around the earth. Also, i very clearly think that one half of the moon is always lit up. thats why we have a new, moon the new moon occurs when the side that the moon isn't lit up is facing our way, and when we have a full moon is when the half that is lit up is facing us. So that is what leads us to on how the moon phases work.

i also think that the secound idea makes the most common sence. it just explains everything.

I believe the phases of the moon are caused by the moon going around the earth and the change in the moons position. I say this becuase we have already tested the 1st idea and that didn't work. It would create an eclipse and would not affect the moon in any way.

the second one because the phases are caused by the absence of light from the sun and theallighnment of the earth moon and sun.

I think that the 2nd isea makes more sense because when the moon is at certain posostion and the earth is at a certain posistion. You will be able to see the moon's diffrent phases. hey! I agree on the second one to.
