think the 2nd idea makes the most sense because when the moon moves around the earth that effects how much sun is shining on the moon and how much of it is covered well yeah thats at least what i think but i might be wrong

i agree that the second idea is the best becausethe moon does revole around the earth and that affects how we see the moon and the phases it goes through.

The Idea we are working on is the sun shine hitting the earth. casting a shadow on the moon. Thus the moon phases

well the fact of the moon going around the earth solves your soltuion the angling of the sun shining on the moon is what causes certain ares of it to light up.. thus causing ur phases
