How and why does the moon cause the tide?

The answer is the moon has a gravitational pull. This in turn affects the waters tide.

The moon exerts a gravitational pull (odd, i know) that moves the water. Though i don't know why it doesn't move the ground.

The moon's gravitational pull is what causes the tides. Depending on the moons position in chorolation to the Earth.
