Welcome to the science discussion board. This is a place to continue the discussions we have in class and also a place to explore and discuss other interests if appropriate and beneficial to furthering our understanding of science, the characteristics of science or improving our ability to learn.
I want to strongly encourage you to be an active participant on the board as conversations are only as interesting as the people having them. I know each of has valuable ideas to add and unique perspectives, so please share often.
As both Mr. Wilcox and I often say to you in class, we are very interested in exploring all ideas, even those ideas you are not sure about or even those you know are wrong, but do not fully understand why they are wrong. To help everyone feel comfortable providing their ideas, we want to set up some ground rules:
1) Discriminatory, bullying, or condascending language will not be tolerated. Your posts will be deleted, and you may be blocked from the board - limiting your ability to contribute and earn any points associated with participation.
2) Your username must be recognizable. If your name is John Smith you might just use John Smith, or J. Smith. Do not use a name that is hard to recognize (Ex: X-country grl 23)
3) We expect that you participate mostly in conversations about science class, but will allow you to explore other topics related to learning, science, or school. Also, because we are combining two different schools, we will allow some introductory type threads, but will probably close these down after some time. If you create a thread clearly unrelated to productive conversation, do not be surprised if it is quickly deleted.
4) If you post a link, be sure it is to an appropriate site. If you post inappropriate material, you are subject to all of the consequences your administration would inforce for a similar offense within the school.
5) Nothing on this board is private. As the administrators and moderators, Mr. Wilcox and myself can see all activity, even emails sent from the site, and instant messages sent from the site. We will hold you to all the expectations of our classrooms when you are on our site.
Some suggestions:
Play around. Figure stuff out, try things. While the emoticons might be fun, they can also get annoying.
The different conversations are called "threads".
To reply to a post, just hit "reply".
If the person you are replying to is several posts earlier, try the "quote" link - this quotes the text of the post you clicked on and posts it in your reply, now people will know who you are talking to.
Feel free to add suggestions to this thread as you figure new and interesting things out.
