Edward Suess' idea makes a lot of sense. As the earth cooled, the more dense material sank, and the less dense stuff rose. This rising and falling and then cooling can explain many landforms we see. Yet, the extreme "s" shaped folding could not be explained only by up/down movement.
What do you think causes the different landforms around the Earth?

Well, take the Appalacians for example. I don't think something like that can be formed just by up & down motions. How I learned that they were formed, is that, they did used to be mountains, but then a gigantic glacier went over them.

Where did you hear about the glacier. I wasnt really sure how mountains were formed until we started to talk about them in class.
