On this thread identify a technology (for example a calculator). Then discuss both the advantages and the disadvantages of that technology. We should end up with a whole bunch of examples. You might even do some searching online to better understand the advantages and disadvantages of the technology you identify. Then you can discuss each others' examples.

Ok. Sounds like fun. Remote! Advantages: Don't have to always get up and change the channel, or turn the volume down. Not just for televisions, but also for toy cars! They have made it so you don't have to actually push the car, but you can use a remote control and make it move while you are sitting in a chair, or laying in bed. DISadvantages: Uh, it makes us lazier. Like, WAY lazier. It used to not be such a big deal to get up and change the channel on the television, or just sit down for awhile and actually play with your wooden car. That whole wireless thing really did something to us.

VIDEO GAMES!
Positive: Games like the Wii for example get you up and moving. this provides exercise unlike normal video games. Also video games usually actually make you USE YOU BRAIN! This may help people learn how to use their mind more and figure out new things.
NEGATIVE: o.0 Some people play video games wayyyyy too much. This causes them to get lazy. Which makes them not want to do anything all day which probably involves laying on a couch ALL THE TIME and therefor for some people causing obesity or other health problems.

Okay, so I think a cellphone would be a good example.
Advantages: A cellphone makes it so much easier to communicate with others, whether it's by text message, email, IM, or phone call. Also, it makes it possible to work on stuff anywhere you are. Like with emailing and internet access on phones. Like blackberry's which are mostly designed for busy people who work in stuff like offices and need access to emailing on the go. A cellphone just helps some people stay entertained and not be so bored.
Disadvantages: People are getting so addicted to cellphones. Like with kids our age, who are texting addicts. Some people who are addicted to just talking on the phone. Others who just like being able to check their myspace or facebook whenever they want on their phone. So they get so caught up in all that, that they waste their time on their phone. Don't spend enough time doing other stuff like chores, jobs, etc. And for adults who use their phone alot to work, they get so into it, that they always end up working outside of work. And so they are always working. So they hardly have enough time to be with family, friends, or just time to relax and do nothing. And most people don't realize it.

That whole wireless thing really did something to us. Another disadvantage or side effect might be that we end up changing the channel more often, so television programs end up putting commercials in the shows called "product placement". We are being sold things without even realizing it.

Violent video games can actually change the way people view violence. When people are less "shocked" by violence they may actually be violent more easily.
