Does anybody know why such heavy objects such as ships float? I mean a rock sinks and boy it is small

i think its because they have like air talnks in the bottom of the ship

It most likely has to do with the air inside. The air helps it float. The rock has no air in it therefore it sinks.

I don't think it is air tanks in the ship i think it is the shape of the ship.

I agree with both Brandon and Jocelyn Maybe ships do have air tanks that help them float. And as for the rock it has no air particles

Or really heavy metal and heavy air tanks that float because they are full of air

In the bottom of the ship, I think they have an area that has nothing but air in it. I think that is what helps it stay floating.

it has to do with how the mass is distributed in certain areas but yeah the air pockets\tanks help

Ships float because of their shapes. By increasing the surface area of something, it decreases the density
