Would you consider music a technology?

Music. Everyone around the world pretty much listens to it. But is it a technology? Is it helping us?

It doesn't help everyone but it helps some. So is it a tech for some and not for others???

i think it is a technology because it HELPS people express themselves through it.

But what about the people listening to it? Not all of them benefit. THey just get loss of hearing from the headphones.

ok thats one bad thing. what about the good music is one common bond between people so people benifit because they can have some good relationships because they have some things in common.

so i guess tv isnt a technology cuz people just watch listen it so thats not technology.

This is an interesting thread. I know that music is an art form just like painting or sculpting and that all of these art forms USE technology. But they don't necessarily help us accomplish a practical goal. In many cases, music or art allows us to express ourselves in new ways, but I wouldn't say they are more clear than just words. So is it a tech? I'll let you continue debating, but hopefully what I have said provide some new insights.

I would consider tv a technology. It enables us to learn things if we are watching the right things.

The language some music has in it. I listen to lots of rock music in which the language in the music isn't the best. I had my little cousins at my house last week. They memorize lots of words from songs they hear. Ex. the free credit report.com songs. THey have those memorized. A buckcherry song( crazy you know what) comes on my phone. THey hear it. THis could teach them language they should not be using that is another down.

well who lets your cousins listen to it? it is up to the owner what they do with the music they have. and tv is entertaining like music and tv has music on it. I strongly think they are the same thing.

I think music is an impotant technology. It does make people make express themselves but we also have the technology to record the music. I also think that technology was used to make the instruments used for everyday music. Like microphones and recording studios and electric guitars and amps. Am I right?

yeah. i think i get what you are trying to say. like you cant have music if you don't have the technology to create it.

I am not talking about the tech. we use to create it. But the music we are listening to.

well mrs. dailey considers singing part of music and we didn't really invent that but someone figured out we could make noises so....I would have to say yes to music >IS< a technology!

Music is a technology for many reasons. It is a technology because, you need electricity in order to run the system for generating the music.
